August 20, 2024, Taipei – The "Standard Chartered Taipei Charity Marathon," an annual charity event sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank, will commence on 12 January, 2025, with registration opening today. This race marks the first stop of Standard Chartered Bank's 2025 global ten-city marathon series and integrates the Futuremakers by Standard Chartered global initiative, aimed at creating transformative opportunities for disadvantaged youths. Since 2013, the combination of races, public donations, various fundraising activities, and contributions from the Standard Chartered Foundation has resulted in an investment of over TWD114 million in Taiwan, providing training, guidance, and counseling programs to support disadvantaged youths.
Reflecting its brand commitment, "Here for good," Standard Chartered sponsors city marathons in Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Hanoi, London, the Falkland Islands, Jersey, and Nairobi, inviting customers and running enthusiasts worldwide to experience the joy of running. In Taiwan, the "Standard Chartered Taipei Charity Marathon" is one of the few domestic races where participants’ results are recognized by both AIMS and WA. The new visual identity incorporates iconic Taipei landmarks such as Taipei 101, the Grand Hotel, and the Dazhi Bridge, capturing the unique characteristics of the race and creating a visual connection with other cities.

The bank has been repeatedly recognized by the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education with the "Sports Promoter Award," making it the most awarded foreign bank in Taiwan. Legendary runner Cheng Chi (紀政), known as the "Flying Antelope," attended the event, extending her congratulations. As Taiwan’s first female athlete to win a medal in Olympic athletics, she remarked, "With marathons becoming a nationwide movement in Taiwan, I am thrilled and thankful to see companies like Standard Chartered making long-term investments in promoting running events."
The "Standard Chartered Taipei Charity Marathon" has grown to become Taiwan’s largest charity marathon, focusing on supporting the visually impaired, promoting employment for the visually impaired in Taiwan, and contributing to global blindness prevention and relief efforts. The event has also provided training, guidance, and counseling programs to enhance the skills of disadvantaged youths, fostering economic inclusion. Since 2020, with the support of "Futuremakers by Standard Chartered" partners, including the Taipei Parents' Association for the Visually Impaired (PAVI) and the Garden of Hope Foundation (GoH), nearly 7,000 disadvantaged youths have been assisted in securing employment or starting businesses. The annual theme, "RUN FOR CHANGE," carries even greater significance, with over TWD114 million raised since 2013 through races, public donations, various fundraising activities, and contributions from the Standard Chartered Foundation.
As part of its sponsorship of the "Standard Chartered Taipei Charity Marathon," Standard Chartered Bank has mobilized over 2,200 volunteers from within the bank since 2013. These volunteers enthusiastically participate in the 13K Plogging event, helping to clean the race course while running, or transforming into cheerleaders along the route, serving as guides for visually impaired runners, and assisting with various tasks at the finish line.
