Standard Chartered Taipei Charity Marathon
- Started in 2013, the Standard Chartered Taipei Charity Marathon (SCTCM) is known as the largest charity
marathon in town that supports the community as well as promotes the spirit to never give up.
- The race is certified by AIMS and WA, and endorsed by the Sports Administration under the Ministry of
Education which has been awarded "Sports Promoter Award - Gold Award for Sponsorship” since 2014.
- SCTCM is one of the 10 races sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank across the globe. Charity has always
been
at the core of the SCTCM, which is in line with the Bank’s brand promise to be Here for good. Through the
SCTCM, we also encourage our runners to fundraise towards Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, the Bank’s
global initiative to tackle inequality by promoting greater economic inclusion for disadvantaged young
people in our local communities.
2025

The 2025 Standard Chartered Taipei Charity Marathon, themed "RUN FOR CHANGE," invites runners to change
their lives,
environment, and society through running.

The event has invited the well-known healing band "Bestards" composed of a former doctor, pharmacists, and
an
engineer, to serve as ambassadors. The goal is to use this opportunity to establish good running habits and
continue the
musical journey with their fans.

This year, the Standard Chartered Taipei Charity Marathon will be the first stop of the Standard Chartered
Bank's
global ten-city marathon series. With a new event logo, it aims to showcase Taiwan to the world. For
international
runners coming to Taiwan, a special Shakeout Run will be held the day before the race, allowing participants
to exchange
experiences and immerse themselves in local culture through running.

The collaboration with the internationally renowned sports brand New Balance will continue and expand,
aiming to
create a higher quality, more professional, and enjoyable race experience for runners worldwide.

In collaboration with well-known running groups, long-term training classes targeting the 2025 Standard
Chartered
Taipei Charity Marathon will be established. These classes will span different levels to meet the
professional training
needs of runners, helping them break personal records and challenge themselves.

Adhering to the spirit of "RUN FOR CHANGE" the event will host a vintage goods festival to extend the life
cycle of
old items and create sustainable value. Additionally, actress and environmental enthusiast Serena Fang will
serve as the
captain for the Plogging Clean Street Run, encouraging people to change the environment through running and
contribute
to the world.
2024

Cosmos People, winners of the 2023 Golden Melody Awards, will be running together with us and sharing
their popular song ’Run Together’ to inspire and engage a larger audience to join us for the run.
Additionally, there will be pop-up music stops along the 42K / 21K /13K race route to inspire runners, as
well as support Taiwanese talent / singers.

New Balance is our sponsor for race shirts and will also provide support to runners through the New
Balance Run Club (NBRC) to share running tips in running clinics which will help everyone to run a better
race. Also providing pacers in 42K / 21K / 13K groups on the race day.

Runners who register for both the 2023 and 2024 races will receive a 10% discount. Those who mark better
time in race 2024 from their personal best in race 2023 are eligible for lucky draw on the SCTCM Facebook.

Developing an official race app for 2024 with multiple features to enhance the participant experience,
which includes creating their own event profile, sharing and updating their progress with the event
community, live tracking their performance, viewing the official results, as well as analysing the race
results.

Aligned with the Bank’s goal to be net zero from our own operations by 2025, we will continue to
incorporate green and sustainable elements into the SCTCM. An additional 13K plogging run category will be
introduced this year to encourage green practices amongst our runners. Medals and trophies for 2024 will
continue to be produced using environmentally friendly materials-bamboo, with green and blue added to the
design. All items produced for the race will follow the principles of "reduce, recycle and reuse”.
2023
- Themed "Go Forward", the race aims to encourage everyone to go forward towards their goals- be it for
good health and wellness, giving back to the community or being their best selves.
- Aligned with the Bank’s goal to be net zero from our own operations by 2025 and financing in 2050, green
and sustainable elements have been incorporated into this event. All items produced for the race will follow
the principles of "reduce, recycle and reuse“. For example, our medals are made from bamboo fiber and
trophies from handcrafted bamboo. All our collaterals are digital, including e-certificates for runners and
no plastic packaging is used for running gear and race packs during the event. More than 200 volunteers from
Standard Chartered will plog during the race to honor our commitment towards being environmentally friendly
and lead by example.

2020
- Nearly 30,000 runners from 43 countries participated including 250 visually impaired runners and
disadvantaged youth.
- To salute Steve Roland "Pre" Prefontaine, the legendary runner of 2020, ''Without Limits” was chosen as
the theme of the race in the same year.
- Introduced the first full-marathon corporate charity relay with 24 teams to support “Futuremakers by
Standard Chartered”, a new global initiative to support disadvantaged youth as well as visually impaired to
pursue their future careers.
- A fundraiser was also introduced among runners to support “Futuremakers by Standard Chartered”.
- As of 2020, through the Standard Chartered Charity Taipei Marathon and runners, Standard Chartered
contributed over TWD 60 million through the race to support the visually impaired and disadvantaged youth in
Taiwan. 727 visually impaired were positively impacted with more than 550 having secured job opportunities.
2019
- Nearly 30,000 runners from 54 countries participated including 250 teams of visually impaired runners
and their running buddies.
- “Be Fearless” was chosen as the theme of the race in 2019 not only to encourage runners to challenge
themselves but also to applaud the spirit of the visually impaired who courageously pursue their career
dreams.
- The 13 KM category was introduced, replacing the 10KM category.
- The “10-hour nonstop Visually Impaired Relay” was also held in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung
accomplishing a total distance of 999.3KM completed by the visually impaired challenging teams.
- Standard Chartered received the “Gold Award of Sponsorship” from “Sports Promoter Awards” by the
Ministry of Education for five consecutive years.
2018
- New category of "10KM Team Challenge" was introduced to engage more runners as a new feature of the
fifth anniversary of the race.
- Supported by Standard Chartered, the first "Taipei-Taichung-Kaohsiung 500KM Visually Impaired Relay
Challenge" was introduced and successfully concluded with the joint participation of 40 visually impaired
runners plus 88 sighted runners in the event.
2017
- Through the race, Standard Chartered has contributed more than TWD 50 million to support projects under
Seeing is Believing, a global programme to assist visually impaired employment in Taiwan and avoid
preventable blindness in developing countries.
- The innovative approach of the "Seeing is Believing Visually Impaired Employment Platform" also won the
2017 Zero Project Award - Innovative Practice by Essl Social Prize in Vienna.
- Inspired by stories of the visually impaired, "Seeing is Believing", a book compiling 10 different
working experiences from visually impaired people, was published in the same year.
2016
- Over 33,000 runners from 54 countries participated including 200 visually impaired runners and their
running buddies.
- 10 top athletes from the 2016 Olympic Games also joined the race to raise awareness of the charity
marathon among the public under the theme of "Hear the Love".
2015
- New category of 2KM Leader's Cup was launched to engage business leaders on visually impaired employment
in Taiwan.
- "Seeing is Believing Visually Impaired Employment Platform" was introduced with support from partners
including: Taipei Parents' Association for the Visually Impaired, Institute for the Blind of Taiwan, Eden
Social Welfare Foundation and Technology Development Association for the Disabled. Nearly 220 visually
impaired were placed into enterprises successfully in the same year.
- Standard Chartered was named "Gold Award of Sports Promoter" by the Sports Administration, Ministry of
Education for the second year.
2014
- The first “Standard Chartered Charity Taipei Marathon”kicked off and received more than 36,000
registrations from 43 countries.
- Standard Chartered was named "Gold Award of Sports Promoter" by Sports Administration, Ministry of
Education.
2013
- Standard Chartered became the title sponsor of “Taipei Standard Chartered Charity Road Run”. and
attracted more than 20,000 runners from 29 countries. Taipei was also listed in major marathon cities
sponsored by Standard Chartered.
- Over 150 visually impaired runners also ran with 400 running buddies from the Bank to introduce the
"Seeing is believing" programme to the public.
- Partnering with ChungHwa Telecom, Fubon Cultural and Education Foundation, Jardine Matheson, Audi Taiwan
and HP, Standard Chartered also formed the "Standard Chartered Visually Impaired Employment Advisory
Council", a corporate alliance aiming to promote diversified and friendly working environments to visually
impaired people.
